7 Mathématiques
These outcomes are statements identifying what students are expected to know, be able to do and value upon completion of study in Mathématiques 7 this year. These statements provide the organizational structure for other learning outcomes and reflect the “big ideas” in that subject area.
General Outcomes
Number & Operations
· Students will demonstrate number sense and apply number theory concepts.
· Students will demonstrate operational sense and apply operation principles and procedures in both numeric and algebraic situations.
· This includes such concepts as exponents, fractions, decimals, integers, and percentages.
Patterns & Relationships
· Students will explore, recognize, represent, and apply patterns and relationships, both informally and formally.
· This includes representing patterns using algebraic equations as well as graphing.
Measurement
· Students will demonstrate an understanding of and apply concepts and skills associated with measurement.
· This includes the conversion of SI units as well as measurements involved with circles.
Geometry
· Students will demonstrate spatial sense and apply geometric concepts, properties, and relationships.
· This includes angle relationships and polygonal structures.
Data Management & Probability
· Students will solve problems involving the collection, display, and analysis of data.
· Students will represent and solve problems involving uncertainty.
· This includes graphic representations of data and experimental trials of various situations involving probability.
Assessment
Assessment throughout the course will be based on but not limited to:
· Formal/Informal teacher observation
· Discussion participation and in-class contributions
· Whole group and small group participation in class activities *Currently restricted due to COVID-19 Protocols
· Tests and quizzes
· Unit projects
· Assignments
Supplies
· French-English dictionary (this is to be brought to every class)
· Bescherelle (verb book)
· Binder – this is to be kept neat and organized
· Loose leaf paper
· Writing utensils (pencils, no pens please!)
· Calculator (preferably a scientific calculator)
Other helpful items:
· Coloured pencils
· Ruler
· Math Set (protractor, compass, etc.) *Only necessary during certain units*
Students are expected to arrive on time with all necessary materials and be ready to work.
French language
As this is a second language course, students are expected to speak French in class, and to complete all tasks in French. It is essential that French is the only language of communication in the classroom.
Students are to use appropriate strategies to communicate when unsure of a word or expression in French.
Absences
Students are responsible for all missed course work and material including tests and assignments. They may ask a fellow classmate or arrange a time to meet with me to cover missed material. Students will have access to Google Classroom where they will be able to find all notes and practice questions completed in class. This is updated daily at the end of the day. Students can also make arrangements to retrieve missed work through email ([email protected]) with me as well.
Any student who is absent for a test or an assignment due-date will be expected to hand in the work or write the test on the day of their return (unless prior arrangements have been made).
Homework
Homework will be assigned as needed as a continuation of in-class lessons.
Students are asked to try every question and/or task they are assigned with their best efforts.
Note: translators are not acceptable tools at this level. Students need to be able to do their own writing and understand what they are communicating in order to show their understanding and meet the outcomes.
Extra Help
Due to the current COVID-19 protocols, extra help is very limited throughout the school day. I will make my best effort to schedule a time (by request over email) with students to meet virtually using Google Meet at home during my office hours of 7-9 PM on most week nights. These office hours are not set in stone however as I could have other engagements during my evenings!
